In 1921, Gabrielle Chanel entrusted renowned perfumer Ernest Beaux with an ambitious request: to craft "a woman’s perfume, a scent of a woman." The result was a groundbreaking composition that daringly incorporated aldehydes, a synthetic note that added an abstract and revolutionary character to the fragrance. From the array of samples Beaux presented, Mademoiselle Chanel was captivated by the fifth sample, leading her to name it simply, N°5. This perfume would go on to become an icon in the world of fragrance, symbolizing timeless elegance and femininity.
In 2008, Jacques Polge, CHANEL's then-master perfumer, revisited the legendary N°5 with a fresh perspective. His reinterpretation, EAU PREMIÈRE, offers a lighter, more airy, and luminous take on the classic. By revealing a softer, more delicate side of N°5, Polge created a version that remains faithful to the original's spirit while introducing a modern, ethereal dimension to the fragrance. EAU PREMIÈRE captures the essence of N°5, making it the "now and forever" fragrance for a new generation.
